Update from the UK: ETA
Starting April 2, 2025, the United Kingdom will adopt The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), which represents a digital permit system for visa-exempt travelers, namely European citizens, who are visiting the country for short periods of time. The ETA allows visits for tourism, business, and short-term studies up to 6 months and is valid for 2 years or until passport expiration.
The conditions of receiving an electronic travel authorisation are the date of your travel, and your nationality. If you already have a visa, or the permission to live, work or study in the UK, then you do not need an ETA. If hold British citizenship, Irish citizenship, or dual citizenship, you also do not need an ETA.
How to apply?
You must apply for the ETA before you travel to the United Kingdom, online, using the UK ETA app or through GOV.UK.
For that, you only need:
- A valid passport that you will travel with (not a copy or in a digital format)
- Access to your email
- An online payment method
The average time for receiving a decision is 3 working days, but most applications are approved even quicker, within minutes. In certain cases, the process may take longer than 3 working days.
