Within the BSCC network there exists extensive knowledge and expertise. We are always eager to share relevant knowledge, news and useful information. This week we are happy to share updates from Vattenfall and AstraZeneca

Vattenfall

This week, Vattenfall’s Head of Sustainability, Annika Ramsköld, is representing the company at COP29 in Baku, where she is discussing ambitious climate targets, carbon pricing, and the investment frameworks necessary for a sustainable future. With nearly 76% of global emissions still outside of carbon pricing, COP29 is a pivotal moment to strengthen this tool and establish new financial goals to accelerate decarbonization across industries. As Annika Ramsköld emphasizes, “Fossil-free energy production is a key prerequisite for the climate transition in other sectors, and we play an important role in that. It is vital to ensure that the discussions at COP29 translate into clear, actionable plans, and to underscore the urgency of the situation. Climate change is already a reality. It is extremely concerning, and unfortunately, it’s a very real possibility that this year we may exceed the critical 1.5-degree target for global average temperatures.”

AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca was present at the launch of Sweden’s new life science strategy, marking an important milestone in efforts to strengthen the country’s position as a life science nation. The strategy was unveiled yesterday by the Swedish government at Forskaren, the Nordic headquarters of AstraZeneca, and was developed under the leadership of Jeanette Edblad, the government’s life science coordinator. The launch was attended by four ministers: Ebba Busch, Minister for Energy and Business and Deputy Prime Minister, Jakob Forssmed, Minister for Social Affairs, Acko Ankarberg Johansson, Minister for Health and Social Affairs, and Johan Pehrson, Minister for Education. Emelie Antoni, Head of AstraZeneca’s Nordic market operations, participated in the launch and shared the company’s perspective on the strategy in a panel discussionThe strategy highlights the central role of the life science sector, emphasizing the need for sufficient resources and close collaboration between academia, healthcare, and industry to ensure successful implementation. Together, these efforts have the potential to make a significant impact on patients both in Sweden and beyond.
