It Takes All Kinds Of Minds

In 2018 BSCC awarded Sophie Dow,  BSCC member and founder of the Salvesen Mindroom Centre in Edinburgh, our Annual Award for her organisations work to help and support children and young adults who are neurodivergent. The organisation works locally, nationally and internationally.

The Salvesen Mindroom Centre continue to promote Neurodiversity and are now organising  a wide-ranging  international conference – It Takes All Kinds Of Minds (ITAKOM) 13-14 March, EICC entirely focused on Neurodiversity in all its forms.

The consensus among world experts is that between 10% and 15% of the world’s population do not fit the so called norm and are neurodivergent. Salvesen Mindroom’s mission is to ensure that with the right support, especially for children, all forms of Neurodiversity are embraced and no mind is left behind.

During the two days of ITAKOM over 50 speakers will share their knowledge about Neurodiversity using the themes of Healthcare, Education, Community and Workplace.  At each session delegates will hear from a range of diverse voices and the mixture of keynote talks, workshops and panels will be participative and encourage networking.

The conference will be streamed as well as recorded for those who cannot attend in person, thereby making ITAKOM accessible anywhere in the world.

Here are just a few examples from the programme:

  • The Ever-changing Brain’– Pierre Magistretti, Emeritus Professor at EPFL and Lausanne University,
