Industry Focus with SAAB, Mr. Micael Johansson, President & CEO

On October the 28th, the BSCC had the pleasure of organising an industry focus event with SAAB’s CEO Micael Johansson, at their offices in Stockholm.

Mr. Johansson began the talk by discussing some of the current global market drivers, centring on among other things AUKUS, the EU’s open strategic autonomy, tensions in the South China Sea, and technological development. After discussing SAAB’s commitment to protecting societies and openness, Mr. Johansson laid out his strategy of a more focussed product offering and talked about SAAB’s core areas – aeronautics, sensors, and submarines.

The presentation then moved on to the importance of managing talent, and the challenge of retaining and involving young people in SAAB’s innovation process, where 20% of their revenue goes. Innovation and the role that young talent has in it was a central theme of the presentation, and a problem that SAAB works proactively with. Mr. Johansson presented the markets in which his firm saw opportunities to expand into, and ended his presentation by speaking on SAAB’s close partnership with the UK, in particular the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).
