BSCC Tuesday Breakfast with Claes Berglund, Stena AB
BSCC Tuesday Breakfast with…
This week’s breakfast guest was Board member and Patron Claes Berglund. Claes Berglund is Director Public Affairs & Sustainability at Stena AB and based in Gothenburg. Stena AB has activities within Ferries, Tankers, Ports, Offshore drilling, Ship Management, Real estate and Other investments. The group has a 4 billion€ turnover and 15.000 employees and operates more than 170 vessels worldwide.
Claes is concerned about Brexit, but points out that good things can come out of the negotiations. Stena would prefer the UK to remain within the EU. The UK is a good country for business and Stena is one of the largest foreign shipping companies within the UK. Claes points out that the UK is an intergraded part of Europe with free movement. If Brexit was to happen, Claes believes, that the free movement may be negatively affected and trade would decrease due to duties and other barriers.
Through UK Chamber of Shipping, Stena is an active member by taking part in discussions and influencing the authorities in the UK. Stena has, also, recently started a Brexit group within the company with Claes as Chairman.
The Stena sphere is doing very well at the moment and will make a record profit for 2016.
Claes was very positive towards our new offices, a good venue for members to meet and very centrally located.
