70th Annual General Meeting

On 15 May, the BSCC and H.E. Ms. Judith Gough CMG, British Ambassador to Sweden, welcomed members to the 70th Annual General Meeting at the British Ambassador’s Residence.

During the evening, we had the pleasure of listening to Guest of Honour, Mr. Micael Johansson’s, President and CEO of Saab, and H.E. Ms Judith Gough’s reflections on the current trends within the geopolitical context and their implications for the defence industries and the collaboration between countries and businesses.

Some key takeaways from their shared reflections were:

Increasing geopolitical tension.

The world has not been this dangerous in many decades, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas war, growing tensions with China, and the rising threat of Iran. It is essential to understand that the situation is critical, and actions must be taken accordingly.

Businesses and countries need close collaborate.

On defence industry, countries need to collaborate more with each other, especially in Europe. Countries also need to work together with businesses as they drive innovation and new technologies. Agreements such as the UK-Sweden Strategic Partnership are extremely important for the countries and its industries.

There are some optimistic outlooks.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the ‘collective West’ came strongly together in support of Ukraine and strengthened its ties with each other. Hopefully, this will lead to a stronger and more unified Europe and West that will be better prepared for future crises.

The BSCC would like to thank all our members for attending the AGM and for your continuous support of the Chamber. We would also like to extend our gratitude to H.E. Ms. Judith Gough and Mr. Micael Johansson for sharing their reflections. Additionally the Chamber would also like to acknowledge the great support received from H.E. Ms. Judith Gough over the past years and for her last BSCC AGM as the British Ambassador to Sweden and as the Honorary Chair of the BSCC Advisory Board. We wish you the very best in future endeavours.
