Volvo Cars UK Sales Surge for Q1

Volvo Cars, a patron member of the BSCC, saw new UK car sales rise 15% for Q1 in comparison to the same period last year. This resulted in a total of 13,964 units being sold in the first 3 months of 2021 despite the overall market contracting 12% year-on-year. The Swedish icon now holds 3.28% of the UK car market (up from 2.50% for Q1 2020) and represents the largest share in over 30 years. Dealerships had been closed for this period due to the national lockdown but Volvo appear to have struck a chord with the British buyer: as the manufacturer is now ranked as the country’s fastest-growing premium car brand.

In the same period, the Volvo XC40 became the UK’s sixth best-selling car for the quarter with 8,084 sales. Furthermore, PHEV sales equated to 3,536 units (25.3%) across all of the models sold which can be considered a great sign for the future. Volvo’s UK MD, Elvefors, credited the “effectiveness of our digital services and the continued success of the Care by Volvo car subscription that have enabled us to trade truly online”. The company plans to build on these successes as dealerships reopen and the need for travel increases. You can find out more here.
